About
Why School Enterprise?
Research carried out in 2006 by the (then) Department for Education and Skills into the effective use of resources in secondary schools found that one of the key characteristics that distinguished effective schools were those that had “a proactiveness with regard to seeking out additional funding sources and deploying such funding to improve the school”. The same, however, applies to primary schools.
A culture of enterprise and initiative actually boosts the quality of school leadership and directly contributes to pupils’ improved attainment, according to the research. Such schools show much higher levels of motivation among staff and pupils.
School Enterprise uses case studies and leading sector advice to help all schools become more effective. The enewsletter is distributed half-termly.
Each edition includes:
• listings of current grants and awards available to schools;
• lists of subject-specific funding;
• case study of a successful school;
• guidance on effective procurement/use of resources;
• guidance on making successful applications for funds/sponsorship;
• ways of building alliances with businesses; and
• introduction of effective management practices.
